BP’s Battaglia to Steptoe

Richard Battaglia, former senior counsel for regulatory compliance at BP America Inc., has joined Steptoe & Johnson in Chicago, Illinois.

Battaglia’s practice will focus on providing compliance advice and counseling on anti-corruption, anti-money laundering, export controls, and economic sanctions.

“Rich brings a wealth of global experience to Steptoe, having provided legal advice on various matters in nearly 50 countries,” said Steptoe Chair Roger Warin. “In particular, his depth of knowledge on compliance issues will greatly complement our existing anti-corruption, trade regulation, and fraud investigation practices, and help us expand the regulatory compliance services we provide to our clients. In addition, Rich’s extensive in-house experience will deliver to clients efficient and workable compliance solutions that protect the company and its executive management.”

Battaglia earned his law degree from the University of Illinois College of Law, where he was the lead articles editor of the law review. He received a B.A. from Northwestern University.
