Kristin Amerling New Executive Director of Taxpayers Against Fraud
26 Corporate Crime Reporter 4, January 19, 2012

Kristin Amerling will be the new executive director of Taxpayers Against Fraud.

Kristin Amerling comes to TAF after serving for three years as Chief Counsel, Democratic Staff, to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce under Representative Henry Waxman (D-California), and before that for ten years as Chief Counsel and Counsel to the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform under Rep. Waxman.

Amerling has extensive experience in investigations, ethics, Congressional liaison work, and legislative drafting, and brings a wealth of Capitol Hill experience to the False Claims Act bar.

She is a graduate of Harvard College and the Boalt School of Law at the University of California at Berkeley.

“We are elated to have Kristin Amerling head the team at Taxpayers Against Fraud,” said TAF Chair Neil Getnick. “We know her experience on Capitol Hill and in Washington will be invaluable.”

“Last year was the best year ever for the False Claims Act, with over $2.7 billion recovered thanks to whistleblower-initiated lawsuits. In the year ahead, we predict that more than double and perhaps triple that amount will be returned to the American people thanks to cases filed under the federal False Claims Acts.”

“Of course, the federal False Claims Act is only one instrument in America's growing arsenal of fraud-fighting tools. More and more states are passing legislation modeled on the federal FCA, and an IRS Whistleblower program that is already in place has pending cases representing potential significant recoveries to the American people.”

“Finally, we have a new Securities and Exchange Commission whistleblower program, as well as a new whistleblower program in the Commodities Futures Trading arena that shows great promise as well. Incentivizing integrity works, and we believe it will continue to pay enormous returns for America's taxpayers.”

“With Kristin on board, we look forward to expanding on our past success, and we know that under her guidance TAF will continue to forge an excellent relationship not only with the Congress, but also with the Department of Justice, the State Attorneys General, the Internal Revenue Service, the Securities and Exchange Commission, and the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission.”
